1. The Bancroft Ranch House Museum

Registered as a historic landmark, the Bancroft Ranch House Museum offers visitors a peek at life in the late 1800s. This museum was home to Mexican and American historian Hubert Bancroft and is now open to the public, giving them a glimpse of the simple life lived by many ranchers at that time. Built in 1856, the home is now the oldest building in Spring Valley!

2. The Steele Canyon Bridge

If you’re looking to get outdoors for a long walk or bike ride, be sure to plan a stop along the Steele Canyon Bridge. This steelwork bridge provides an excellent backdrop for photographs while its surrounding Sweetwater River Trails offer lots of space for walking, hiking, and jogging. Built in the 1920s, the bridge also offers a classic, rustic charm you’re sure to love seeing again and again! The nearby trails are also designated as a wildlife preserve, so you might even get up close and personal with lots of native animals and birds while enjoying your time in the great California outdoors.

3. The Water Conservation Garden

A planned garden and gift shop, the Water Conservation Garden offers plenty of space for enjoying local flowers and plantings, all preserved with minimal fresh water consumption. You can also learn about cacti and other native plants in the garden’s education center, or enjoy a nice lunch in the diner or at one of the area’s many outdoor benches.

4. Dictionary Hill

For outdoor hiking and a great view of the nearby city, visit Dictionary Hill! This fantastic open space offers a great hiking trail, perfect for the family and even your four-legged friends.
